About me

There was a time, quite a while ago now, when I built molecules. I used to tell people that I was sculpting on the smallest of scales, crafting complex compounds with a chemist's tools of the trade. Synthetic chemistry is equals parts problem-solving and cooking, and I loved that challenge.

What I didn't like was smelling like solvents.

So I traded my lab coat in for a laptop and started writing about science. Now, I sculpt stories.

I'm particularly passionate about the molecular world and I often write about breaking bonds, constructing chemical oddities, and making medicines. But I'm also curious about all the science and technology that shapes our world. Stories I've written about smart keys, clever bees, and a billionaire adventurer in a balloon have appeared National Geographic News, Baltimore Sun,        St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and ASEE Prism.

My strength is my ability to explain complex concepts. My weakness, if you haven't discovered it already,  is alliteration.
